East Bali Gate Of Heaven And Instagram Tour

Expect a very early wake-up call for this one  your driver arrives around 4:00 AM so you can reach Lempuyang before the sun and the crowds fully arrive. Locals call it the "Gate of Heaven," and it ranks among Bali's six most sacred temples, set 600 meters up Mount Lempuyang with its famous split gate opening straight toward Mount Agung.

Ten minutes down the road is Tirta Gangga, once a royal water garden and now a relaxed stop full of koi-filled pools, carved statues, and fountains  an easy place to slow down and take a few photos.

The next leg is roughly an hour's drive to Besakih, known as Bali's "Mother Temple." It's actually a cluster of 23 separate temples spread nearly 1,000 meters up the slope of Mount Agung, anchored by the main sanctuary, Pura Penataran Agung.

After lunch at a nearby restaurant overlooking rice fields and the volcano, the tour heads back down toward Tukad Cepung, about 30 minutes away. Getting to this waterfall means a short walk down a staircase and through a narrow gorge lined with rock walls, and on sunny days beams of light break through the cave ceiling for a dramatic photo moment.
